Our dehumidifier range covers desiccant and compressor models for boats, cabins and homes, sized from small compact units for a single cabin up to larger capacity models for a full boat, garage or damp room – led by the Meaco range.

Choose desiccant or compressor based on where and when you’ll use it: desiccant dehumidifiers work effectively at lower temperatures, run quieter, and are the better choice for an unheated boat cabin or shed over winter, while compressor models extract moisture faster and more efficiently in warmer spaces above about 15C, such as an occupied home. Size to the space, not just the room dimensions – a boat cabin with poor ventilation and condensation-prone surfaces (GRP, metal fittings) often needs a higher-capacity or more frequently run unit than a similarly sized but better-ventilated room ashore. For winter lay-up, a dehumidifier left running low and slow prevents the mould, mildew and damp-locker smell that comes from sealing a boat up for months – pair it with cracked-open lockers and hatches where possible rather than a fully sealed cabin.

Running cost matters over a winter’s use: desiccant units generally cost more to run per hour than compressor models but justify it in cold spaces where a compressor unit struggles to extract moisture at all.

Many models are designed for continuous unattended use with an auto-shutoff tank, but check the specific model and make sure power supply and drainage are reliable before leaving it running for weeks.
