Kayaks

Our Kayaks range covers sit-on-top and inflatable kayaks for recreational paddling around Galway Bay and further afield, sized and shaped for stability and ease of use rather than performance touring or whitewater use.

Sit-on-top kayaks are generally the more forgiving choice for casual and family use, since they’re self-draining, easier to get back onto if you capsize, and don’t trap you inside the way a sit-in design can – a real consideration for less experienced paddlers or anyone paddling solo. Inflatable kayaks trade a small amount of tracking performance for easy storage and transport, a sensible choice if you don’t have space to store or a roof rack to carry a rigid kayak. Whichever you choose, pair it with a suitable buoyancy aid (see our Buoyancy Aids category) and a paddle sized to your height (see our Paddles category).

Frequently asked questions

Sit-on-top or inflatable kayak?

Sit-on-top suits casual and family use with easier re-entry after a capsize; inflatable trades a little tracking performance for easy storage and transport.

Do I need a buoyancy aid for kayaking?

Yes, always – see our Buoyancy Aids category, regardless of swimming ability or how sheltered the water looks.
