Antennas
Our Antennas range covers VHF, AIS and radio antennas for fitting to a mast, rail or bracket, giving your onboard radio and AIS the range and reception it needs to actually reach other vessels and the coast station.
An antenna’s height above the waterline matters more than the radio’s power rating for real-world VHF range, since VHF is line-of-sight – mounting an antenna higher, on a mast top rather than a low rail, typically does more for range than upgrading the set itself. Match the antenna’s connector type to your radio before ordering, and check the cable run length required, since a long, poor-quality cable run can lose more signal than a cheaper antenna gains. If you’re fitting an AIS antenna separately from VHF, some antennas are dual-purpose and some setups need a splitter rather than two separate antennas – check compatibility with your specific VHF/AIS unit before buying.
Frequently asked questions
Does a more expensive antenna give better VHF range?
Mounting height above the waterline usually matters more than antenna price – a mast-top mount will generally out-perform a low-mounted premium antenna.
Can I use one antenna for both VHF and AIS?
Some antennas are dual-purpose and some setups use a splitter – check compatibility with your specific radio/AIS unit before buying.
What connector type do I need?
Check your radio’s antenna socket before ordering – connector types vary between brands and models.
