Our Batteries & Battery Boxes range covers marine batteries and the secure, ventilated boxes that house them – deep-cycle and starting batteries suited to a boat’s demands, and boxes that protect against movement, spray and (for lead-acid types) venting gas safely.

Starting batteries and deep-cycle (leisure) batteries are built differently and aren’t fully interchangeable: a starting battery delivers a short, high burst of current to crank an engine, while a deep-cycle battery is built to discharge more steadily over a longer period and recover repeatedly, which is what running lights, pumps and electronics off the battery bank actually needs. Many boats run both – a dedicated starting battery and a separate house bank of deep-cycle batteries – so one doesn’t compromise the other. A secure battery box matters as much as the battery itself: it stops a battery moving or being damaged in rough conditions, and for lead-acid batteries specifically, a vented box directs any gas released during charging safely away rather than letting it build up in an enclosed space.
