Thermals & Rashvests

Our Thermals & Rashvests range covers base-layer thermals for warmth under drysuits and foulies, and rashvests for sun and chafe protection during watersports, dinghy sailing, paddleboarding and kayaking on the Irish coast.

For cold-water use under a drysuit, choose a thermal base layer designed to retain warmth even when damp with sweat, rather than a cotton layer that loses insulating value once wet – see our Drysuits category for how the two work together. Rashvests serve a different job: protection from sun and equipment chafe (a wetsuit seam, a kayak seat, a paddleboard) during warmer-weather watersports, and a UPF-rated rashvest adds meaningful sun protection on long days afloat. Layer thermals under a drysuit or wetsuit rather than over it, and size them close-fitting so they don’t bunch under a seal or zip.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear a cotton base layer under a drysuit?

Not ideal – cotton loses its insulating value once damp with sweat. A proper thermal base layer stays warmer when wet.

What’s a rashvest for?

Sun and chafe protection during watersports and paddling – a UPF-rated one also adds real sun protection on long days on the water.
