Lighting

Our Lighting range covers general onboard lighting – cabin, cockpit and deck fittings – distinct from Navigation Lights, which are the coloured lights required by law for identifying your vessel and its heading to other boats after dark.

It’s worth being clear on the difference before ordering: this Lighting category is general illumination for living aboard and working on deck, while Navigation Lights (see that category) are the red/green/white lights required by collision-regulation rules and aren’t interchangeable with general fittings. For cabin and cockpit lighting, LED fittings now dominate for their low power draw, which matters most on boats without shore power or a generator running constantly. Red-light or dimmable modes on cabin fittings help preserve night vision on passage.

Check the fitting’s IP (ingress protection) rating for anything mounted on deck or in a wet locker, since indoor-rated fittings corrode quickly in a marine environment.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as navigation lights?

No – this category is general cabin, cockpit and deck lighting. Navigation lights are the legally required red/green/white lights; see our Navigation Lights category.

What IP rating do I need for deck lighting?

Look for a fitting rated for wet or outdoor use – standard indoor-rated fittings corrode quickly in a marine environment.
