Jotun

Jotun is a Norwegian marine coatings manufacturer with decades of experience protecting boats in cold, demanding North Atlantic waters – conditions close to what Irish boats face. We stock their antifouling and topcoat ranges, giving reliable protection below the waterline and a hard, weather-resistant finish above it.

Jotun’s antifouling range spans eroding and hard formulations, so the right choice depends on your boat’s speed and how often you’re prepared to scrub or reapply: an eroding antifouling wears away steadily and stays effective with minimal maintenance, while a harder-wearing formulation suits faster boats or those hauled and relaunched more than once a season. Jotun’s topcoat range gives a durable, glossy, UV-resistant finish for hull sides and superstructure, formulated to hold its colour and shine through a full Irish season of sun, rain and salt spray rather than chalking after one summer. As with any two-part or high-build marine coating, surface prep and application temperature make more difference to the final result than brand choice – always check the specific product’s data sheet for overcoating times and minimum temperatures before starting a job.

See our antifouling guide for a full walk-through on choosing and applying Jotun antifouling for Irish conditions.

Frequently asked questions

What Jotun antifouling should I use for Galway Bay?

It depends on your boat’s speed and how often you haul out – talk to us about your usage pattern and we’ll match you to an eroding or harder-wearing option from the range.

Can I apply Jotun antifouling over a different brand’s old coat?

Usually yes, provided the old coat is sound and compatible – check the product data sheet or ask us, since some antifouling chemistries shouldn’t be applied directly over others.

How long does a Jotun topcoat finish last?

With good prep and application, a season or more of UV and weather exposure before it needs refreshing – exact longevity depends on conditions and how exposed the boat’s mooring is.
