The deck collar is where the mast passes through the deck, and it has two jobs that pull against each other: hold the mast steady sideways, and let it move fore and aft so the rig can be tuned. This collar solves that with an oval inner diameter, giving the mast room to rake without letting it wander laterally. The Delrin is low-friction, so the mast moves smoothly rather than sticking and jumping when the rig tension is adjusted, and the tapered inner shape reduces the point loading that wears an alloy mast at deck level. It is designed to work alongside the Optiparts mast sleeve EX1211, which takes the wear on the mast side of the joint.
