The choice between 43 and 48 litre buoyancy bags comes down to what happens after a capsize. The 48-litre bag displaces more volume inside the hull, so there is considerably less water left in the boat once it is righted, and a young sailor has a far better chance of getting going again without help. The trade-off is a small amount of extra weight. Construction is polyurethane-coated nylon, which is lighter and stronger than the PVC bags it replaced. As with any buoyancy bag, inflate until it is soft to the touch and no further, and check the hull for exposed fastenings or sharp edges before fitting.
