Epifanes Rapidclear is a fast-drying, one-component semi-gloss varnish with a built-in UV filter, formulated for teak and other oily hardwoods. Recoat every five to six hours with no sanding in between, so a full system builds in days rather than weeks. Epifanes Rapidclear 750ml – Fast-Drying Semi-Gloss Varnish for Teak & Marine Woodwork

Epifanes Rapidclear is a one-component semi-gloss wood finish with a built-in UV filter, formulated so a full varnish system can be built in days rather than weeks.

  • One-component clear semi-gloss finish for wood above the waterline
  • Modified alkyd and urethane resin with built-in UV filter
  • No sanding required between coats
  • Recoatable in 5–6 hours at 20°C
  • Tack-free in 1 hour, dust-free in 2 hours
  • Coverage 10–12 m² per litre at 30 micron dry film thickness
  • Solids content 35 ± 2% by volume
  • Bonds well to teak and other oily hardwoods
  • Suitable for interior and exterior brightwork
  • Four to five coats on bare wood, three in most other conditions
  • Also works as a fast base coat under Epifanes high-gloss varnish
  • Supplied in a 750ml tin

Epifanes Rapidclear suits the boat owner whose brightwork needs protection quickly and whose weather window is short. Because coats go on every five to six hours and need no sanding in between, a full system builds in a couple of days instead of the fortnight a traditional varnish schedule demands. The urethane and alkyd resin grips teak and other oily hardwoods that often reject conventional varnish, while the built-in UV filter slows the greying that Atlantic sunlight and year-round salt exposure cause on Irish coastal waters. Use it as the finished surface on handrails, toerails, cockpit trim and interior joinery, or as a fast base under an Epifanes high-gloss varnish where a deeper shine is wanted. Once the system is established, maintenance means little more than a clean down and a fresh coat at the start of the season.

Preparation: degrease bare wood, sand with 220-grit paper, remove all dust and degrease again before the first coat. Over sound existing varnish, sand with 320-grit and apply at least two coats. Apply by brush or spray, preferably unthinned; use Epifanes Brushthinner for Paint & Varnish only if thinning is needed.
