Class rules aside, a paddle is basic seamanship in a boat with no engine, and the Praddel is sized so it can live in an Optimist without getting in the way. At 215 grams it is light enough that a child can use it one-handed while steering with the other, and the blade shape gives useful drive rather than just stirring the water. It floats, which is the feature that matters most, because a paddle dropped over the side in a breeze is gone otherwise. The orange colour makes it easy to spot in the water and in the bottom of a boat. Worth having aboard for getting off a lee shore or back to a pontoon when the wind dies.
