The bailer is the piece of kit that gets an Optimist sailing again after a capsize, and its shape matters more than its size. This one is moulded to fit into the corner of an IOD 95 hull, which is where the water ends up, so it scoops rather than skimming the surface. At 3.5 litres it shifts a useful amount per stroke without being too big for a child to swing when the boat is still full and unstable.
