Lacing lines are what hold the Optimist sail to the spars, and because they are thin and heavily loaded they stretch, chafe and eventually part. A stretched lacing line lets the luff sag and quietly costs boat speed long before it breaks. This set replaces the lot in one go: fourteen 1.2 mm lacing lines at 42 cm and five 2.2 mm tack lines at 45 cm, all pre-cut so there is no measuring in the boat park. The Vectran core is what keeps them low-stretch, with an HT polyester cover taking the abrasion against the spars. For a boat sailing year-round in Irish salt water, renewing the full set at the start of a season is a sensible piece of maintenance.
