This large sea anchor from Trem works by dragging through the water behind the boat. Once streamed on a line, its 0.8 m opening fills and resists the push of wind and tide, so the boat drifts more slowly and sits more steadily. It is useful when the water is too deep to anchor, when the engine fails, or when you want to hold position while fishing. The PVC-coated fabric folds down for storage in a locker. Because Atlantic swell and strong tides can carry a disabled boat quickly, sailing in Ireland is one place where a sea anchor earns its space aboard. Choose the large size for bigger boats or stronger conditions.
