Yamalube 10W40 marine oil is Yamaha’s own semi-synthetic lubricant for four-stroke outboards and WaveRunners, and the 5 litre can covers a full service on most mid-range engines with a little left over. Marine engines work harder than road engines, because they run at sustained high revs under constant load, so the anti-wear and anti-foaming additives matter more than they would in a car. The detergent package keeps deposits from building up inside the engine, while the anti-corrosion additives suit boats left afloat through an Irish winter. Salt exposure and long periods at moorings around the west coast are hard on internals, so an annual oil change with the correct grade is the cheapest maintenance you will do. Always check your owner’s manual for the grade and capacity your engine requires before ordering.
